Outdoor First Aid (OFA) – 16 hours (2 days)
A two-day First Aid training course specifically designed for outdoor pursuit instructors and those working in remote areas.
Our Outdoor First Aid course covers requirements for :
Forest School Practitioner - covers child CPR, illness, choking
Mountain Bikers Leaders and Coaches (BC, CTC, MBLA, etc)
Mountain Leaders / Climbers and Instructors (IML, MLA, SPA, etc)
Ski Instructors (BASI etc)
Paddlesports coaches and instructors (BCU/SCA etc)
Sailors (RYA)
Forestry (+F requirements) and Ecologists
Remote First Aid
Wilderness First Aid
Aquatic First Aid (BCU/SCA)
Duke of Edinburgh Assessors and Supervisors
Field Studies Tutors

Course content:
What you should have in a first aid kit
Accident reporting
Vital signs – breathing, level of consciousness, temperature, colour, pulse
Monitoring casualties
Incident management – a systematic approach to managing first aid incidents. ABCDE
Airway Management – causes and treatment of unconscious collapse.
Recovery Position and other Safe Airway Positions
Breathing Problems - cardiac arrest CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation),
Automated External defibrillator Training AED
Drowning/child CPR
Choking adult and children
Circulation Problems – Internal bleeding, external bleeding and treatment for shock. Crush Injury
Major blood loss, including chain saw injuries.
Bandaging issues, use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
Hard and soft tissue damage for chest, abdomen, pelvis, leg & arm, including improvised techniques for remote areas
Head and spinal injuries and spinal management
Environmental Considerations – hypothermia, hyperthermia and cold injuries
Illnesses and common medical emergencies – asthma, diabetes, heart attack, angina and epilepsy
Bites, stings and poisons (Ticks, bees, wasps, adders, sea creatures and other animal bites
Anaphylaxis and Auto-Injector Training (Epi-Pens, etc)
Making emergency calls
